Motion Graphics E2: How to make elegant flat colourful transition in Microsoft PowerPoint

This blog post is resource store or resource page for YouTube video “Holi Special: How to make elegant colourful transition in PowerPoint | Motion Graphics Tutorial” in which I’ve shared how you can create a super amazing colourful flat transition in Microsoft PowerPoint. This blog in first part includes colour pallet, shapes, fonts, animations used in the project along with the PPT template. In second part, it includes the step-by-step documented process for creating the transition effect.

Colour Pallet for this Flat Transition

I used Dark Teal, Blue, Red and Plum colour for the rectangles. White was the initial colour of the screen and it was also used for the slide title. Blue was also used in straight line connector along with the rectangle. Orange was used for the subtitle. Here is the image of colour pallet:

Shapes used in this Flat Transition Effect

The only shape used in this flat transition effect is slide size rectangle and group of 2 rectangles.

Fonts Used in this Flat Transition

Particularly no typography is used in the original transition effect but in the slide intro Tw Cen MT and Agency FB are used.

Animations used in this Flat Transition Effect

  • Spin Effect (180 degree) in respective directions.
  • Wipe for title, Split for straight connector and float in for subtitle.

Step 1:

Draw a slide size rectangle by clicking on insert > shapes. Choose a fill colour and remove the outline.

Step 2:

Place it to the edge of slide such that the bottom right corner of rectangle touches the top left corner of the slide.

Step 3:

Create a duplicate copy of the rectangle by pressing ctrl + d on keyboard. Cover the slide with this duplicated rectangle. Change the shape fill to no fill.

Step 4:

Select the colourful and no fill rectangle and form a group by pressing ctrl + g on keyboard.

WHY THIS?

This will move the anchor point from middle of the rectangle to the middle of formed group.

Step 5:

It’s time to animate the group. Select the group and add spin animation from emphasis. Change the amount to half spin and direction to clockwise. In timing pane change the start to after previous, duration to 1 sec and delay to 0 sec.
Note: The animation of first colour is done. You can check it out by pressing F5 on your keyboard.

Step 6:

Now create a duplicate copy of the group by pressing ctrl + d on your keyboard. Move it to the top right corner of the slide and rotate it by flipping horizontally (click on shape, which will add the format tab to the ribbon. Format > Rotate > Flip Horizontal). Place it in such a way that the bottom left corner of colourful rectangle touches the top-right corner of the slide and no-fill rectangle covers the slide. Now change the colour of the colourful rectangle only to second colour.

Step 7:

Go to effect options from animation tab by selecting the second group. Change the direction to counter clockwise and let the amount to be half spin. From timings, change the start to with previous. Increase the delay to .25 sec without changing the duration of 1 sec.
Note: The animation of second colour is done. You can check it out by pressing F5 on your keyboard.

Step 8:

Create a duplicate copy of the second group by clicking ctrl + d on your keyboard. Move it to the bottom right corner of the slide and rotate it by flipping vertically (click on shape, which will add the format tab to the ribbon. Format > Rotate > Flip Vertical). Place it in such a way that the top left corner of colourful rectangle touches the bottom-right corner of the slide and no-fill rectangle covers the slide. Now change the colour of the colourful rectangle only to third colour.

Step 9:

Go to effect options from animation tab by selecting the third group. Change the direction to clockwise and let the amount to be half spin. In timings, let the start be with previous. Increase the delay to .50 sec without changing the duration of 1 sec.
Note: The animation of third colour is done. You can check it out by pressing F5 on your keyboard.

Step 10:

Create a duplicate copy of the third group by clicking ctrl + d on your keyboard. Move it to the bottom left corner of the slide and rotate it by flipping horizontally (click on shape, which will add the format tab to the ribbon. Format > Rotate > Flip Horizontal). Place it in such a way that the top right corner of colourful rectangle touches the bottom-left corner of the slide and no-fill rectangle covers the slide. Now change the colour of the colourful rectangle only to fourth colour.

Step 11:

Go to effect options from animation tab by selecting the fourth group. Change the direction to counter clockwise and let the amount to be half spin. In timings, let the start be with previous. Increase the delay to .75 sec without changing the duration of 1 sec.
Note: The complete animation of flat transition is done. You can check it out by pressing F5 on your keyboard.
